The Olympic Environmental Council has collaborated with ESC for ten years during the cleanup at Port Angeles Harbor.

Olympic Environmental Council

Port Angeles, WA

For the past ten years, ESC has partnered with the Olympic Environmental Council to oversee the cleanup of the Rayonier paper mill site. In 2000, the US EPA granted cleanup oversight to Washington Ecology, the state’s environmental agency. Site remediation pertains to arsenic, PCBs, dioxins, PAHs, manganese, lead, and phthalate contamination. Human health as well as ecological risks play an important role at this site, including concerns about the tribal burial ground on top of which it lies. Efforts are currently underway to understand the extent of the contamination and to develop remediation strategies that will protect human health and the environment of the Port Angeles Harbor.
