Anacostia River, MD/Washington D.C.
The Anacostia River experiences problems with low oxygen due to excess nutrients from discharges and runoff from farms, yards and streets. Environmental Stewardship Concepts reviewed the proposed cleanup plan under the TMDL for biological dissolved oxygen.

Sierra Club, Gulf Port, MS
DeLisle, MS

ESC served as advisor for the Mississippi division of the Sierra Club, for which ESC president, Peter deFur, gave sworn testimony at State Permit hearings for the DuPont titanium dioxide plant in DeLisle, MS. According to EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory, this is currently the number one site in the country for release of dioxin-like compounds.

Spokane River
Spokane, WA

ESC served as technical reviewer for site remediation on contaminated sediments behind a dam at this site. The contamination was primarily PCB.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal
Denver, CO

ESC was technical advisor for this Superfund site containing contamination from chemical and non-chemical weapons production. Both the groundwater and the soil are contaminated with dioxin, DIMP agents, arsenic and other chemicals.

San Diego Naval Air Base
San Diego, CA

This site includes both deep groundwater contamination with solvents (DNAPLs) and soils contaminated with organic chemicals and metals. It served as a mid-20th century chemical disposal facility.


Indiana Water Quality Program Triennial Review
Indianapolis, IN

ESC provided technical advice to citizens councils including Save the Dunes and Hoosier Environmental Council, in reviewing state programs on water quality criteria, standards, toxicities, testing, measurements, evaluations, etc. The state funded this endeavor under a technical services grant.

James City County Residents
Williamsburg, VA

ESC served as technical expert on this permit decision hearing for an asphalt plant proposed in a residential neighborhood. The asphalt fumes contained arsenic, PAHs, other metals, benzene, and other solvents.
